I bought the amplifier for $118, it is a 500 mw bi-directional amplifier called "turbo tenna",
the amplifier was shipped from Hong Kong and I received it shortly after ordering on eBay.

This project is a bidirection amplifier which permit to achieve up to 30Bm of output power from commonly used access points or WiFi cards (PCMCIA, PCI, USB).
Also, it amplify the RX signal by 20dB, so now it's easy to extend covered distance!
Also, this amplifier can be used to amplify ATV (Audio/Video) signal, both in RX and in TX: you can connect directly to the antenna,
to improve RX and TX regarding to the coax cable loss, using the optional mast box.
Improving WiFi coverage is simple using RAST2432, in both indoor and outdoor environment, due to its large output power,
high sensitivity and out-of-band noise filtering (look at the RX characteristic above)!
Due to its high output power, this project can be used by licensed amateur radio operators only.

Another way of adding range uses a power amplifier. Commonly known as "range extender amplifiers"
these small devices supply usually around ½ watt of power to the antenna.
Such amplifiers may give more than five times the range to an existing network. Every 6 dB gain doubles range
Specially shaped directional antennas can increase the range of a Wi-Fi transmission without a drastic increase in transmission power.
High gain antenna may be of many designs, but all allow transmitting a narrow signal beam over distances of several kilometers,
often nulling out nearby interference sources.
A popular low-cost home made approach increases WiFi ranges by just placing standard USB WLAN hardware at the focal point of modified parabolic cookware [6].
Such "WokFi" techniques typically yield gains of 12–15 dB over the bare system
enough for line of sight (LOS) ranges of several kilometers and improvements in marginal locations.

Choosing the Right WiFi Amplifier

A Wi-fi Booster that is also called wifi repeater or range extender is used to broaden the range of Wi-Fi network.
While installation, you just need to place the wifi booster between the router and then put the modem’s antenna on it.
A wifi repeater works by receiving the wi-fi signal from a router and then amplifies and rebroadcast it around locally.
