Magnetic encoder IC:

•	No complicated mechanical work to attach the encoder to motor
•	Not depended on hard to find and expensive motor/encoder
•	Use any motor you like (even a motor from children’s toy)
•	Easy for higher quantity production
•	Easy to prototype and finalize successfully an innovation voucher

There are many options, mostly from AVAGO and AMS
The one below is very attractive due to:
•	Classic incremental quadrature encoder output A,B and Index (resolution 90p/r)
o	Can be used with many available motor controllers or chipsets (like Avago…)
•	PWM output. Can be used to create analogue PID loops. Economic, simple, no CPU, good to teach
•	Step mode with step and direction outputs:
o	Easy to interface to CMOS 4000, or TTL 74 series counters, teaching digital electronics…up-down counters…
o	Selectable 24, 60, 90, 180 pulses/rotation
•	Serial interface
o	SSI serial interface is the format of high-end encoders
o	360 degrees resolution
o	9-bit Rotations counter
o	Magnetic field strength meter 5-bits
o	…..more

Deciding to go with such an encoder makes the motor selection very easy (…and low cost )
